So happy to meet you. I'm also a "curious and passionate person who’s a sucker for melancholy," also was indoctrinated into evangelical Christianity and left it. Also studied theology. Also a photographer. Also married young (19) and divorced! Also irreverent spirit and also all of this: "My biggest value is integrity, is truth. And that leads me to ask myself incessant questions. I rarely accept the answer just because. Always needing to dig further, act further, understand more. I love the core of things. I am never satisfied with less than the core. And yes, I am annoyed by myself too."
You are becoming my favourite writer on this platform. I am about to turn 30 and if I look back at my life, i can see so much truth in your experiences. The many lives I have already lived. The many I am about to live. I guess similarly to you, the algorithm took me to your page because I too like to question life and do my best to make sense of it even if it means accepting that certain things will never make sense.

Congratulations on being here, that's a huge step in itself! What kept me going...good question. To be honest I never have to force myself much to create. It's just in me and it has to come out, I don't need to motivate myself to do it. But in times where it was a bit harder I did one of two things: I either allowed myself to skip a week and take a breather. That's ok too! Or I wrote anyway and published even if I felt it wasn't good. I recommend my post called "I'm going to write anyway" to Go a bit more into this. It also helps that I am not a perfectionist at all, I do things and hope for the best but I don't strive for perfection 😊
I am a woman breaking into herself, a woman unbecoming. A woman leaving herself and returning to find new pieces and parts known and unknown. I am seeking so as to uncover what is here to see, what has been buried, what has been erased, what has been ignored.
When I found your words, your art, your work (you) in 2020 I found pieces of myself via another. I found a voice speaking and telling in ways fear was keeping me from. Ours is a sacred connection that I will forever be grateful for you.

I breathe, I walk, I sing when no one is watching (preferably, in the bathroom), I hold space for vulnerable conversations (preferably, one-on-ones), I use writing to meet interesting people that my shy self could never have met, I listen to people share what inspires them, I highlight interesting words, sentences, or phrases from books and share them with the world, I clean my washroom, my room, kitchen while listening to podcast, I watch basketball, football, I shine light on other writers' work. But tbh, i actually don't know who i am, i find out new sides of me everyday.

Nadia, so much of what you write reminds me of my own truth. I am a 'not from here nor there' bilingual Mexican who grew up in the Midwest. I am obsessed with the idea of lowercase g god, of my relation to it all -- and my questions are my guide. I believe rules were made to be broken. I have broken many along the course of my life. It is my natural tendency. I feel I belong most in my 'other-ness.' That I was made to love and be loved. I have no idea who I am, and I think that means I'm close. Thank you for your honesty, your vulnerability, for being. x
