As someone who rematriated (yes, I changed it from repatriated) to connect with my culture and still feels foreign, this piece rang so true. Not quite from here, not quite from there, but taking bits and pieces of the wonderful cultures that raised me to create my own. Thank you for sharing your writing, Nadia 💗
I really feel this. I always call it “my caveats.” I feel like I’ve whittled it down to a script for the common questions, because the long, more real answers are exhausting, especially for passing conversation.
made me a want to cry out my sorrows and connect more with the birds that have no place to land. thank you for this heartfelt piece, i know i felt it deeply in my heart🫀
I feel seen, Nadia. My story is different because even though I grew up with strong roots, I always had the urge to stretch them to other places. My children are third culture kids. My eldest recently wrote an essay on the places that changed him, and what came through was this feeling of living in the in between. I share your piece with him. Thank you Nadia 💛
What a take on belongingness, Nadia! The duality is best defined right here. I'd also like to mention the short story -- "Legal Alien" by Rutangye Crystal Butungi. Do check it out! :)
I resonate with this so much ❤️
I know I am not the only one xx
Love this
As a 3rd generation settler with connections staying from the old world... Wow, just wow this encapsulates the in-between so well.

beautiful piece nadia 🥹🥹
even for (some) one who feels
completely at home
(living a thousand yards from the spot
where my mother was born)
this was (and is)
still moving 💙

Beautiful perspective on this reality of living. So important that we talk about these issues that are often hidden and cause confusion and sadness.
